When you honor it, it grows; when you do not, it shrinks. Honoring your word to yourself is primary.
For me, talking about the concept of “taking control of my life” is a healthy balance of personal accountability to steer my ship in the direction I want to go, with purpose, while also giving myself a lot of grace to be present in the here and now. You might consider what “taking control of your life” looks like to you?
